Artist Statement
I am a pyrography artist specializing in high contrast portraiture and hyper- realistic studies. My practice is centred on the permanent and unforgiving nature of fire on wood- a medium that demands the same absolute precision and discipline I cultivated during my military service.
I began working with pyrography in 2017 after a workplace accident. What started as a therapeutic outlet during a peroid of rest and stillness. Evolved into a rigorous exploration of texture, light, and character. My work is a study in focus, i use varying degrees of heat to "paint" with carbon, extracting deep shadows and delicate highlights from the natural grain of the wood.
My portfolio focuses on figures of resilience-from the weathered faces of historical warriors to the intense gaze of a apex predators. I am drawn to subjects that mirror the themes of my own life: strength, solitude, and the endurance required to navigate long journeys. By translating these icons into the sorched earth of the wood, I aim to create pieces that feel as enduring as the stories they represent.
